Improving business outcomes by helping Organisations deal with complexity and risk

Effective enterprise governance is required to deliver on outcomes and nurture the required culture. It is essential to explore alternatives to today’s manual and costly approaches.

As external challenges, regulations and performance requirements become more complex, Organisations respond by adding management layers, procedures and reporting. Research shows managers can spend up to 60% of their time writing reports and in meetings.

These managers, and their supporting knowledge workers, can make up 25%-40%+ of the workforce; a significant cost. The current manual approach to governance creates the hard grind of day to day management and generates surprises leadership teams don’t enjoy.

Improving the effectiveness of managers and knowledge workers is key to improving productivity and organisational outcomes. Our clients strive to do this, however, what seems to be missing is the means to effectively align and coordinate the network of knowledge workers and efficiently make sense of the available information.

We’re a consulting and solutions company focused on improving clients’ outcomes by helping them address complexity and risk. Our Enterprise Intelligence Solutions enhance the organisation’s decision making and governance capability. They introduce new perspectives and capabilities that integrate management and decision frameworks, behaviours, information systems and analytic capabilities.

Case Studies

Here's how our clients are benefiting from our Enterprise Intelligence Solutions.

AF Logo
Royal Australian Air Force

The Royal Australian Air Force needed to drive stronger alignment between its strategic intent and siloed operational units. We worked with them to develop and deliver the Air Force Command Capability Framework. This is now enabling RAAF to make better decisions based on a deeper integrated understanding of all its activities. It has also generated higher levels of trust and engagement from the workforce, ensures operational alignment with strategic goals, and is delivering cost savings.

Navy Logo
Royal Australian Navy/CASG

The Royal Australian Navy and Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), as part of their respective Reform programs, aspired to improve their ‘information sharing environment’ with the intent of reducing the risk of maritime assets not being available when required by Chief of Navy.
Defence’s approach to innovation required that the solution evolve rapidly and facilitate new thinking. We delivered on this by deploying ThoughtWeb’s configurable software platform for building collaborative decision management solutions. The resulting Interdependent Mission Management System (IMMS) is now part of an overall Defence solution to better enable strategic partnering and the joint management of interdependent sustainment risks. It has delivered staff productivity gains, improved maintenance performance and improved the shared understanding of their business.

Department of Conservation

The Department of Conservation (DOC) runs projects to protect, conserve, restore, and manage New Zealand’s conservation land and waters, including recreational opportunities in these areas and the protection of certain species.

Their objective was to move from a folder-based system to one that is folder-less; from a navigable structure, to a more search-focussed environment.
Their aim was to give users as many search tools and entry points to the organisation’s documents and content to ensure efficient use, interaction, and collaboration.

To enable the consistent classification of information, DOC in New Zealand had a specialised vocabulary designed. By using this vocabulary, not only in the new Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system but across a number of internal systems, there is a consistent way of referencing (and therefore retrieving) DOC’s valuable information.

OGA, provided DOC with Smartlogic’s Semaphore – a tool that not only manages DOC’s specialised vocabulary and allows it to be used within various systems, it also auto-classifies content. By integrating Semaphore with the new ECM, content is auto-tagged on upload with a range of keywords that are meaningful to users when searching. This complements the search-focused environment DOC has implemented. The auto-classification can also be leveraged to assist with the information processes required of the public sector, by Archives NZ. In the past, disposal classes were allocated at a folder level however by using Semaphore, DOC are now able to automatically apply classes at an individual item level. DOC have seen a dramatic increase in adoption and access to content. Searchable and accessible content has increased from 7.4% to 80%.
